Day 2: At Sea

You can start this trip report from the beginning by clicking here.

You can see this day’s Navigator by clicking here.

Today started off gray and dreary, and the ship was rocking pretty good.  This was the view from our window:

I went up to deck 9 to get some hot tea, then showered and got ready for this:

We also received this on our door, which I assume was a private mixology event for the Facebook group.  But, I didn’t participate in the Facebook group or sign up for the event.  Oops!

At 10:00 am we went to Palo and met Pat and Rita there.  This was Pat’s first cruise since she was a child and she was feeling queasy due to the rough seas.  She ended up being okay though.  We were seated in Susana’s section, as requested.  This was the only photo I took at brunch, but you can see more Palo brunch photos here and here.  This was my first trip to the buffet:

Brunch was fabulous as usual and it was nice to get to share it with Pat and Rita.  After brunch, we walked around deck 10 and took some pictures.

Yes, people swim in Alaska!  The pools are heated.

Next, I went to the room to get our 11 year old to take her to the Dance Workshop with the Beverly Belles in Azure.  This was really fun!  They taught us the dance moves to one of the songs they had performed the night before.  They were very simple dance moves so anyone could do it.  The turnout was pretty good, and included people of all ages.

While we were dancing with the Beverly Belles, the others were in the Promenade lounge making Mardi Gras masks.  They enjoyed it.

At 2:00, my husband and I went to the Walt Disney Theater for naturalist presentation, which was titled “Skagway: Gateway to the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush” by Scott Foster.  He had given a different presentation that morning, but it was while we were at Palo.  I’m not sure what the girls did during this time.

The presentation was pretty good, but I wouldn’t call it a must-do.  When it was over, we were both feeling a bit sleepy so we went to the Cove Cafe for some coffee.  I don’t remember the name of mine, but it was something minty:

By now it was almost time for me to take our youngest to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (BBB for short).  I had forgotten to make a reservation online before the cruise, but was able to make one onboard the week prior on the previous sailing.  The girls were hanging out in the room, so on my way there I took some more pictures.  It had been raining off and on.

We arrived at BBB for our appointment at 4:00.  She did the Crown Package, which includes hair and makeup but no dress.  Last year on our Panama Canal cruise, she did the Crown Package and we brought a dress from home.  This time, though, she said she didn’t want to bring any princess dresses on this cruise.  It was our first cruise ever that we didn’t bring a princess dress which made me a bit sad.

She chose the half-up hair style:

More LuLaRoe leggings:

The whole thing only took about 30 minutes and then we went back to the room.

Once in the room, we spent some time on the verandah enjoying the scenery.  Some of these photos were also taken on deck 4 around this same time.  We saw a bald eagle flying along the coastline.

Next it was time to get ready for formal night.  I was excited to use my new Aladdin clutch (details here):

Our oldest is in a very anti-dress phase right now.

On our way to Animator’s Palate, we saw this odd sight out the window.  It was a house boat pulling a bunch of kayaks.  It was moving pretty fast.

I totally dropped the ball this night and didn’t take pictures of the menu or any of the food until dessert.  I don’t know how I got so distracted.

I don’t remember what this was called:

This was the Crunchy Walnut Cake (pretty good):

I didn’t take any notes this evening, so all I don’t know exactly what we did but I know that we did go see the Golden Mickeys at 8:30, and then the Beverly Belles adult show in Azure at 9:45.  This was really good and very different from the family show.  They sang a lot of contemporary songs but their own spin on them.

After that I know we went to family karaoke at 10:30.  The ship also starting rocking pretty good this evening.  It was rough in the morning, calmed down a lot during the day, but picked up again at night.

I took this photo to show you how light it was at 10:30 pm.  It seemed like most nights it didn’t get completely dark until about 11:00 pm.  I’m not sure what time the sun rose in the mornings, but I woke up several mornings around 4:45 and it was fully light already, so I’m thinking sunrise probably began around 4:00 am.

After karaoke we went to bed.  I checked our location on the TV.  You can see that we were just getting out into the open ocean which is why the seas had gotten rough that evening.

I’m enjoying reading your posts. What are some of your favorite Palo foods? I’ve been twice and have never gotten any breakfast items -the waitstaff always persuade me against it. Never had flatbreads either?

Hi Linda! Some of my favorites are the parmesan crusted chicken, lasagna, and artichoke ravioli. We also love an item that is no longer on the menu, but they made for us anyway: the grape & gorgonzola flatbread (pizza). My husband loves the eggs benedict though I have never tasted it.

Hi Amy! They are all LuLaRoe leggings. I bought some of them from a few different consultants and some from eBay.

Even without official princess dresses all four of you look like princesses. I love dressing up on the cruise and thankfully so do my girls. The dance lessons from the Belles sound like a blast.
