How to Subscribe to the Blog

June 10, 2016 by Disney Cruise Mom 9 Comments

I have been playing around with the blog lately and trying to decide what would be the best way to let my readers know how they can subscribe to receive emails whenever I post something new.  For a while I just had a box on the sidebar, but people weren’t really using it so then switched to a pop up.  But, then I got some feedback that the pop up wasn’t working properly for everyone so I ditched that idea.  I have decided to go back to just placing a subscription box on the sidebar.  If you want to subscribe, simply type your email address into the box that you see on the right side of the page.  I will not share your email address with anyone, it will just allow you to receive email notifications of new blog posts.  I hope you will subscribe and please let me know if you have any questions!

Is there any advantage to subscribing? I NEVER bother to subscribe to any blog where the pop-ups say, “Input your email and find out when I post something new.” I have all of my subscriptions on Feedly (started with Google Reader until that went defunct), which I check often (even more often than I check my email), where all new content on every blog I truly care about enough to follow appears. I also follow you on Pinterest and all of your new content shows up on my Pinterest feed as well. (Pretty sure I’m not missing a post! Grin!) I’m not sure if I’m missing something here (very likely, given the number of blogs that have this feature!), but I don’t understand why people “subscribe” to blogs via email when they can have them all in “magazine” format through a subscription reader. I mean, if there is an advantage to it and I am missing out on something major, please bring me up to speed, but for all of the blogs that I follow, I can’t imagine getting an email every time someone posts something new. I would be getting 60+ emails a day at that rate, which would just majorly mess with my desperate attempt to control my inbox. (Yes, I have issues…)

No, you’re not missing anything, at least as far as I know. I am not the most technically literate person, but if you use feedly you should be covered. Subscribing is just for people who don’t use something like feedly and would like to be notified of new posts via email rather than just having to randomly check the blog every so often. Perhaps if someone doesn’t follow a large number of blogs, this might be manageable for their inbox. Also, I do have the option to send out emails to my subscribers other than new post updates. Some bloggers email out newsletters or reminders for things like giveaways, although I never have & couldn’t if I wanted to because I currently don’t know how! So long story short, no advantage for you, but thank you for being such a loyal follower!

Also, something completely unrelated to subscription feeds, but I went to H2O+ yesterday when I got an email from them asking that I update my password for their new site. Well, by “new site,” what they really mean is that they have completely gotten rid of my favourite products. My (our!!!) shampoo and conditioner are both gone. I’m hoping they bring them back, but honestly, it looks like they have done a complete overhaul, changing packaging and products and streamlining some of their collections. I was completely beside myself yesterday. I placed an order on Mother’s Day for a new shampoo and conditioner, but if I had known that all of their Disney stuff would be going, I would have bought more. Anyway, I didn’t really have anybody else to share this travesty with, so I have brought it to you. If I thought it would do any good, I would write a letter. I’m now curious if they are even carrying H2O+ products in the parks and on the ships anymore.

Okay, so they do still apparently sell them online at the Disney Store http://www.disneystore.com/h2o-plus-collection/mn/1007016/ . I guess all is not lost! I have always purchased them directly from the company, but at least they are still available for the time being.

Oh thank goodness! I hope that they don’t stop selling it as well. I need my H20+ fix!!!

(Breathing a sigh of relief!) Ah! Good. I’m not very technically literate either and all of my older kids who would know stuff like this are off living their lives around the globe. Sometimes I don’t ask them questions like this anyway, because they would only roll their eyes at me. I was just trying to understand why you were concerned about people subscribing. Perhaps there are just more people who are using a service as opposed to registering directly. You have a fabulous blog. If you build it, they will come (and all that!) It has been great getting in on the ground floor, so to speak, and watching you build up all of your content over time. I’m so glad I clicked your link on the Disboards all those months ago when I wouldn’t have ordinarily done so. It is always an exciting day when one of your posts pop up on Feedly!

I saw on one of your blogs about rides from Orlando to DCL, and you posted a business card of a private car. I have not been able to find it and would appreciate if you could send it to me or repost it. Just wanted to tell you that you have the best information I’ve found and enjoy reading about your experience.

Thank you so much Robert! I’m glad you’re finding the blog helpful. I can’t attach a photo here but I’ll email it to you shortly. Carlos is the best and I have gotten really good feedback from readers who have used him as well.
