Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy

February 2, 2016 by Disney Cruise Mom 7 Comments

Since the rules for bringing your own alcohol onto the ship have changed, I though it would be a good idea to go over the current DCL policy.  Until recently, you were allowed to bring as much alcohol, of any type, onto the ship provided that you carried it on (i.e. you were not allowed to place it in checked bags).  This applied for both embarkation and re-boarding the ship while in port.  You could bring as much as you could carry.  However, this changed on September 30, 2015 and the current policy limits both the type and amount you may carry on.

From the DCL website:

Effective for cruises embarking on or after September 30, 2015, Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call.

Guests wishing to consume wine or champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $25.00 per bottle.

Please note:

These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.
Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.
Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.
Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) on board is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.
Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Please note that the Disney Cruise Line alcohol policy is subject to change without notice.

Also note that this does not specifically address the process for bringing liquor (not wine and beer) back onto the ship in a port of call.  If you purchase liquor in a port, you must hand it over when re-boarding the ship and it will be held for you until the morning of disembarkation, where you will pick it up from the Port Adventures Desk (at least that was the location on my most recent sailing).  The same thing goes if you purchase liquor in the ships’ duty-free shops – it will also be held for you until the last morning of your cruise.

I hope this helps those of you who had any questions about the current alcohol policy!

Is the wine only available at dinner if you bring your own? Also, what is the cost of a cheaper bottle of wine on the cruise?

Hi Janis! Sorry for the slow response, I was traveling all day yesterday. You don’t have to bring your own wine to dinner but you can. I’m not sure about wine prices, but I don’t think they could be that high or I would have heard. I will ask around and get back to you.

I found a copy of the wine menu and it looks like bottles start at about $30.

Hello!! Do they only charge the $25.00 if you drink at the restaurant? Can you drink in your room without a fee? Thank you for all your info. 9 days until our first Disney cruise

Hi Luli! That is correct – you only pay the $25 fee if you bring a bottle to a dining room and have them serve it with your meal. If you keep the alcohol in your room, no fee. I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

Does the alcohol have the actual fit into your carry-on? or could you have it in like a reusable grocery bag?

Hi Victoria! You can carry it on in a grocery bag or any bag you want, you just can’t place it inside a bag that you check with the porters at the curb. You must carry it through security in the terminal building.
