Guest Trip Report: August 6, 2021 3 Night on the Disney Magic from Southampton – Day 2

August 25, 2021 by Disney Cruise Mom Leave a Comment

This guest trip report was written by Molly, who sailed on the August 6, 2021 UK Staycation Magic at Sea sailing on the Disney Magic from Southampton, England.  It was a 3 night cruise to nowhere.  You can start the report from the beginning here.

Day 2:  At Sea

Our ship departed port at 1:30 am, and by the time I woke in the morning we were out at sea.

Today we had a busy afternoon planned. We headed up to Cabanas for breakfast and strolled around deck 9. The sun was shining, but the wind was quite cold.

I wanted to try and change our massage appointment to 30 minutes earlier, so we could be sure we’d be in time to get a seat for tonight’s show. I contacted guest services via my app and was told that this was all sorted. When we checked our apps, we saw that my massage time had changed but mums hadn’t. I spoke to guest services again who told me that they couldn’t change mums appointment, even though I had been told by someone else that it was changed. Whilst frustrating, it wasn’t a big deal as at least one of us could head to the theatre to get seats.

After breakfast we headed to look at the gift shops, but they were crazy busy. Instead we sat at Quiet Cove for a bit, then I grabbed a hot chocolate and we sat in the Promenade Lounge and looked out at sea. The water was quite rough….more than what we experienced on our past 2 sailings in the Bahamas.

At 11:00 the deck 9 food areas opened so I really wanted to try some shawarma. It was SO good. Mum wanted to eat at Cabanas for lunch, and I wanted to eat at Lumiere’s, so that’s just what we did! The offerings at Cabanas again was small but just enough to choose from.

I finally managed to get a picture of the Mickey statue alone just before we went in to Lumiere’s. At Lumiere’s I had the fettuccine which was brilliant. And I just had to try the molten chocolate cake, which was also amazing. Mum tried the calamari as she LOVES it. Our dinner servers, Ivor and Midori were amazing.

Feeling completely full, we walked back to our room via the gift shop. It’s a real shame that quite a lot of the popular items were out of stock due to them selling out on previous sailings, so I picked up a pin and Christmas tree ornament.

Whilst at the room I got a reminder on my watch that my mixology class was starting in 15 minutes, so I headed to Keys for that!

The group was full. As I walked in there were 5 cocktails laid out on individual tables for us. The bar tender explained that in pre-COVID times, he would take volunteers from the group to make the cocktails, however this is not currently allowed. There were a variety of cocktails, but I don’t remember the names. They were STRONG though! I’m not a big drinker, so was interested more in the making of the cocktail. Overall the class was interesting. I think this sort of class would be better to go to as a couple, or if you want a really good value for your money on a selection of cocktails. $25 for 5!

Next I had another massage booked for 4:00 pm. I hung around the room for a bit with mum before heading up. I had the hot stone massage and it was amazing. Whilst I was at the spa I checked availability for the Rainforest Room, and booked a slot for the following morning. I was also able to change the time of tomorrow’s massage to be right after my Rainforest Room session. I can’t wait to try this as I never felt inclined to spend time doing this when sailing in the Bahamas. As we had to change in the room for the massage now, I was able to snap a quick picture of the room! The room I was in was one of the couples villas, but at the moment couples massages aren’t being offered.

After my massage I headed for the Walt Disney Theatre to get seats for the show. I didn’t have to wait long and was able to get good seats. Disney was only able to play a second show due to the recent government guideline changes. Lucky us! Tangled the Musical was amazing and so magical. Masks were required throughout the performance, andPpreludes was closed as no food or drink were allowed this time. Leaving the theatre we saw some visitors on the balcony waving hello!

It was then time to head to dinner, which tonight was at Rapunzel’s Royal Table. I was so excited to eat here! The theming of the restaurant is incredible. The dinner show was great fun, and we couldn’t have been sat on a better table. Right at the front!

I had the ravioli to start, which was absolutely incredible. Mum had the shrimp, which was really interesting looking! Then the potato cream soup, also very good. I had the chicken, which was good but not the best meal I’ve had aboard. For dessert I had the cupcake sundae, which was really good, but not as good as the creme brûlée cheesecake that mum had. We ordered the fry pan to try between us. The bread and ice cream were amazing, but the chocolate sauce was a little bitter.

We then headed back to the room, where our towel animal was a penguin! The sunset again was absolutely beautiful. We passed the Promenade Lounge on the way where Anna Bachkalova was playing violin. She is incredibly talented, and had I not been so full and tired from dinner I definitely would have sat to listen to her play.
