Guest Trip Report: November 18, 2019 Very Merrytime on the Disney Dream – Day 3

February 10, 2020 by Disney Cruise Mom Leave a Comment

This trip report was written by Douglas, who sailed a back-to-back on the Disney Dream beginning on November 18, 2019 on 2 Very Merrytime cruises from Port Canaveral. You can start the trip report from the beginning by clicking here.

Day 3:  Castaway Cay

This was a very special day for us for this day was my birthday!!!

We woke up around 7:30 as we were pulling into Castaway Cay.

Here’s my swimwear for going to the beach:

We headed up to Cabanas for breakfast. I don’t know why I got this shot but it’s a cool design.

The breakfast of champions!

Headed back to the room briefly to grab a few items where our envelope for Palo Brunch was waiting for us:

On our way to Serenity Bay there was this sign:

How bad was the seaweed? I think the following pictures will speak for themselves.

It’s like an invasion from the deep! I went about halfway down the beach and this was all I could see.

With the seaweed overtaking the entire beach it wasn’t good trying to swim into the water and it was super cold so I barely stood up to my knees in the water.  I went back to where my parents were seated and I read for a few hours. At some point a waiter cane by and we got drinks. I forgot to take pictures of the drinks and the only one I got in my notes was the Bitter-Sweet Sensation which was super tart from the grapefruit.

When we started getting hungry we headed back to the ship but we stopped at Cookie’s Too for lunch.  I completely forgot to take a picture of the food but there was fruit, veggies, burgers and hot dogs from what I remember.  After eating we got back to the ship by 1:30.

We got back to the room and found a cake waiting for us (click here for details about ordering cakes):

It was a good chocolate cake but it was a bit on the big side and we never got back to finishing it so we had to trash it before we officially left the ship.  Next, we went up to the Quiet Cove Pool for a couple of hours where I found these animals just hanging around.

While at the pool one of the cast members told us about the damage from the recent hurricane they had experienced. The winds were going about 180 MPH and blew some of the boulders and mooring catwalks away.  Here’s the back 2 catwalks missing from their spots:

There’s one of them way over there:

It’s hard to see, but the other one is here:

Some of the boulders missing from their regular area:

The catwalks are far enough away and heavy enough that helicopters will be needed to put them back where they belong.

We didn’t do much during this time but I did do some people watching during all aboard time of people slowly returning up to 5 minutes before the gangplanks were removed. It was amazing how slow these people were moving since all the ship crew were already back.  One thing I think would be funny to see when pulling out is to have Goofy rushing up to the ship yelling “Wait!! Don’t leave me!!”

I’m not sure what we did after this but I think we got dressed to head up to Palo. This was also pirate night but we’re not fans of the pirate menu, and the one thing that I did enjoy is no longer on the menu, so it was easy to pick which night we wanted for Palo.  We headed up to Palo, got checked in and waited in Meridian lounge for a few minutes before being led to our table.

Our server for the night was Paolo, yes our Palo waiter was named Paolo so stop snickering, and he was an excellent waiter so I’d recommend him if you’re ever cruising on the Dream.  All of the food was excellent so I’ll forgo the usual food rating for this night.

Here’s the menu:

My drink for the night was the blue apple juice we had gotten the first day.  A funny story here: my mother had ordered it as a surprise to be delivered to the restaurant for this night and apparently they did the Romance for One package where a bottle is sent to the room and they had also sent one to Palo so we had brought our bottle and the sommelier was surprised to see there were two bottles. Someone made a mistake somewhere but it was a fortunate goof as you’ll see in the next post.

First up was this amuche buche but I can’t recall what it was:

It was around this time I noticed that my mothers wine, my water and the juice looked like the French flag:

A little birthday surprise from Paolo:

The finishing ‘drinks’/palate cleansers – one is alcoholic and one isn’t but I forget which is which:

After finishing dinner we headed back to the room to get casual and found a monkey hanging around!

And a change of sheets from Suto. While not a huge fan of The Good Dinosaur, I’m more willing to watch this over Coco.

There was also this certificate:

And a birthday card:

We went to the theater to watch the new Aladdin film. To be honest, I didn’t like it at all with the only good parts being the visuals and Speechless. We went to watch this mostly to waste time until it was time to go to the Rum Tasting that we booked for my dad to enjoy.  Okay here’s the strange thing about the Rum Tasting: I had opened the navigator app to check where it was and noticed that the time had changed. Originally it was at 9:30, but before the movie it had updated to 10:30.  Then sometime during the movie, it changed back to 9:30 but the cast member at the Cove Cafe, where it was being held, said it actually started at 10:00.  When we told him the multiple times we’d seen he said that he was tired of them changing the times for this all the time so I’m guessing this wasn’t the first time the rum tasting has been screwed up. We had gone to guest services at some point during this and they didn’t charge us for this no show after we explained about the changing times that kept happening.

After returning to the room I realized I forgot to get the Daily Navigator for that day so I quickly headed back to the guest services counter where I saw this pirate night decor:

Sadly they only had the navigators for the next day so I don’t have one at all for today.  After that I headed back to the room and went to bed.
