Guest Trip Report: January 20, 2019 Southern Caribbean on the Disney Wonder – Day 3

May 4, 2019 by Disney Cruise Mom Leave a Comment

This trip report was written by Holly, who sailed the Disney Wonder on January 20, 2019 on a 7 night Southern Caribbean cruise from San Juan, Puerto Rico. You can start the trip report from the beginning by clicking here.

Day 3: St. Kitts

It was a lovely morning when we arrived in St. Kitts. We had our breakfast at Triton’s and made our way down to Deck 1 to disembark in time for our excursion at 10:00 a.m.

There was a slight delay in disembarking because another cruise ship was docking at the same time which meant we were were unable to get off the Disney Wonder during the docking process. We waited about 20 minutes on Deck 1 for the all clear and made our way to the designated meeting place, which was the yellow “Welcome to St. Kitts” Arrival Hall.

For this port, we chose the Grey’s Island Adventures Multi-Beach Snorkel Tour. Our tour guides met us and the rest of our group at the arrival hall. All together, there were five adults, four children, and two guides. We all loaded into one van (which was parked a few steps away) and we were quickly on our way.

The first place we went to was Timothy Hill, where the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet. We had plenty of time to stop to take pictures and enjoy the spectacular views. There were people with monkeys and donkeys you could pose for pictures with.

I thought it was a good idea to visit the photo stops before getting in the water.

Before we went to the beach to snorkel, we were taken to the Shipwreck Beach Bar for a bathroom break and another photo stop with monkeys. Our guides let us know that we would be coming here for lunch after we snorkeled before returning to the ship.

We were driven down to the beach shown here. The van was able to park pretty close to the shore. I’m really glad we wore water shoes, because the beach was slightly rocky.

After we were quickly fitted with snorkels and fins we made our way into the chilly, but beautiful water. I lost track of time, but I think we snorkeled for about an hour and half to two hours. Our two guides were excellent and helped us with leaky masks and pointed out pieces of a shipwreck, fish, sea cucumbers, and to my delight a sea turtle! They stayed close while giving us time to explore.

One benefit of having two guides is that the children needed a break, so one guide took them back to shore while the other guide stayed out in the water with the adults. Everyone had plenty of time in (or out) of the water.

After we were finished snorkeling, we were driven back to the beach bar. My husband and I were tired and the beach bar menu didn’t appeal to us (and it was pricey, even for island food), so we asked to be driven back to the ship. The rest of the group stayed to eat there, and our guides graciously took us back to the Wonder. There were a lot of tour guide vans parked at the beach bar. I really appreciated that they took us back to the ship when we asked them to instead of asking that we stay with the rest of the group to eat (and spend money, to be honest).

On our walk back to the pier, I stopped into a store to buy a few magnets and had a chuckle at this restaurant’s varieties of cuisine.

Back on the Wonder, we made our way to Deck 9 for a late late lunch (it was around 3:30 p.m.) and enjoyed pizza, shawarma, chicken fingers, french fries, and ice cream.

That evening was Pirate Night, and our dinner was in Tiana’s Place. I had the Fennel, Orange, and Quinoa Salad (just OK) as an appetizer and because I couldn’t decide between the Noodle Stir-Fry and the Falafel, I had both. I really enjoyed both dishes and it was nice to have a filling meatless option.

After dinner, we made our way to Deck 10 Starboard where we didn’t have a great view of the pirate party but had an excellent view of the fireworks!

Sometime before dinner and after the fireworks, my husband forgot to remove the “Room Occupied” placard from our room door. When we returned to find our un-serviced stateroom, it was getting late and I couldn’t find our stateroom host. I found another host in the hall and asked him to let our host we needed service. Without hesitating, he quickly cleaned our room even thought it wasn’t assigned to him. I thanked him profusely, gave him a cash tip, and made sure to thank him by name on our cruise survey. This is what makes Disney stand above the rest – their crew members are so helpful and gracious even when we were the ones that erred.

After a long day of swimming, sun, and fireworks we were ready for our next day at sea.
