Castaway Cay Cabana #14

August 25, 2017 by Disney Cruise Mom 1 Comment

A reader recently sent me these photos of Castaway Cay cabana #14 and I can’t wait to share them with you!  She is a photographer and these photos are just amazing.  If you want more details about the cabanas including how to reserve one, what’s included, cost, etc., you can find out by reading my post about cabanas #5 and #6 here.  These photos of cabana #14 were taken in May 2015.

This is the sign on the beach side of the cabana so that you don’t walk into the wrong one (not that I know anything about doing that):

This is the view looking down the beach towards the higher numbered cabanas:

Here is the view of Cabana #14 from the beach:

Note the sand bar in the following photo that separates the 2 areas of water.  I will be talking about it later in the post.

The sunscreen is included in the cost as well:

Now let’s talk about location.  Cabana #1 is next to Cookies Too BBQ, and the numbers get higher as they move father away from Cookies Too.  This means that the higher the cabana number, the farther you are from the family beach, Cookies Too, and the ship.  You used to be father from the bathrooms as well, but they have recently constructed some new bathrooms down with the higher number cabanas:

Here are some photos that might help you picture how the cabanas are arranged:

In the photo above, you can see cabanas 1-14 (there is not a cabana #13), from left to right.  The large structure on the far left edge of the photo are bathrooms, and cabana #1 (which is the only handicap accessible cabana) is just to the right, sitting at an angle.

In the photo below, I have tried to label the cabanas as well.  This photo is from so far away that you can’t see any details, but the general cabana area is circled.  The order of cabana numbers goes from right to left in this photo.  One thing I would like to point out is that right about at cabana #14, the beach changes somewhat.  There is a large sandbar that juts out and separates the more traditional beach area in front of cabanas 1-13 or so with a more lagoon-like area which is in front of cabanas 15-21.  The level of the lagoon area changes with the tide.  This photo looks like it was either taken at high tide, or that they have built up the sandbar.  From the ground the sandbar looks much larger than this.  Also note that this photo was taken before the construction of cabanas 18-21.

Here are some photos that I took when we were staying in cabana #6 but walked down to the beach in front of the higher number cabanas.  When I took this photo, I was standing on the sand bar and facing away from the ship.  That is the lagoon area on the other side of the girls, and cabanas 17-21 (which were still under construction at this point) would have been just to our right.

This is another photo of the lagoon which shows the higher numbered cabanas as well as cabanas 18-21 being built.  The sandbar was on my right, just out of the photo.

And another shot of the lagoon:

Here are some of my thoughts on cabana location.  If you will be doing other things on the island and want to be closer to the action, choose a lower number.  If you want to be more remote where it is quieter with fewer people, choose a higher number.  If a traditional beach with waves is important to you, choose 1-12.  If you would rather have a more pond-like area in front of your cabana (maybe if you have small children?), then choose 14-21.  Note that cabana #21 is a larger cabana that holds up to 16 people (vs. 6 in the other cabanas) and cannot be booked online.

This is a great post…thank you! So many of these things are unknown before your first sailing so thanks for sharing! And I think you are right about the location of the cabanas – we loved #14 because we had the super-calm lagoon but were not too far from the rest of the action!
